A la vez, exponer a la luz UV a tejidos saludables los expone a ser inducidos a mutaciones indeseadas en las c\u00e9lulas.<br><br>Para eludir el problema, investigadores del Centro de Desarrollo de Materiales Funcionales (<a href=\"http:\/\/cdmf.org.br\/\">CDMF<\/a>) desarrollaron una nanopart\u00edcula de TiO2 decorada con grupos per\u00f3xidos \u2013 Ti(OH)4 (hidr\u00f3xido de titanio IV) \u2013 que mostraba la misma capacidad oxidativa cuando se activaba con luz visible. El material fue probado in vitro, en cepas celulares -normales y\u00a0tumorales- de ratones.<br><br>El estudio fue descrito en el art\u00edculo \u201cDi\u00f3xido de titanio modificado como potencial fotosensibilizador activado por luz visible para el tratamiento del\u00a0c\u00e1ncer\u00a0de vejiga\u201d, publicado en la revista cient\u00edfica ACS Omega.<br><br>El CDMF es un Centro de Investigaci\u00f3n, Innovaci\u00f3n y Difusi\u00f3n (CEPID) de la FAPESP con sede en la Universidad Federal de S\u00e3o Carlos (UFSCar).<br><br>\u201cLos resultados de nuestro estudio demostraron que el Ti(OH)4 no solo pod\u00eda causar efectos citot\u00f3xicos en las c\u00e9lulas\u00a0tumorales de la vejiga, sino que tambi\u00e9n segu\u00eda siendo biol\u00f3gicamente compatible con las c\u00e9lulas normales. Esto convierte al Ti(OH)4 en un candidato potencial para un\u00a0f\u00e1rmaco\u00a0contra el\u00a0c\u00e1ncer\u00a0de vejiga\u201d, explic\u00f3 Thaiane Robeldo, primera autora del estudio y miembro de la CDMF.<br><br>El trabajo fue desarrollado en el Laboratorio de Inmunolog\u00eda Aplicada de la UFSCar, coordinado por el profesor Ricardo Carneiro Borra, y cont\u00f3 con la colaboraci\u00f3n del grupo dirigido por el profesor Emerson Camargo.
