EDS has been widely used in materials characterization, mainly due to its versatility, short time of analysis and capability of sub-micro or nanometric resolution. A good comprehension about the fundamentals of the technique as well as its limitations may significantly improve one’s results quality. In this talk we will discuss the basis of the technique including elemental quantification by EDS. Practical samples will be used to demonstrate the limitations and the possibilities of the technique. The grad students are encouraged to bring their samples and results for discussion.
