Evaluation of Reinforcement Corrosion in Cementitious Composites Modified with Water Treatment Sludge

Abstract: The residue water treatment sludge (WTS) is composed of organic and inorganic matter with variable physical, chemical, and biological characteristics. The irregular disposal of WTS can promote harmful environment changes, as reduction of dissolved oxygen and concentration increase of aluminium and other metals in the receiving watercourses. This work evaluated the physical and mechanical properties of the cementitious composite reinforcement using WTS in replacement to the natural sand. Due some modifications on compressive strength, modulus of elasticity and resistance, WTS addition is not indicated for marine environment, but can be used as structural reinforced concrete in urban areas.
