Following our technical seminars and based on grad students’ suggestions, we will discuss image processing and grain analysis using microscopy. An image is a piece of data and should be treated as such. How an image is presented in a paper and how it is processed after acquisition is a question of matter. Processing and image manipulation will be discussed to warn researchers about fraudulent and misconduct on image manipulation. Following, we will discuss semi-automatic grain analysis on ceramic microscopy using imageJ software. The use of filters and image processing is essential to obtain the right threshold to perform automatic grain size analysis. Research images from our group will be used as examples. Again, the students are encouraged to bring their own data or problems to discuss.
