Synthesis and characterization of Sr1-xCuxTiO3, SrTi1-xCuxO3 and Cu/SrTiO3 applied to the water-gas shift reaction é tema nesta semana

Abstract: Proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells convert chemical energy into electric current in an environmentally friendly manner and require CO-free H2. The water-gas shift (WGS) reaction is a procedure to reduce the concentration of CO formed as a by-product of H2 produced by methane steam reforming. Perovskite oxides, including SrTiO3, have been attracting interest in catalysis, due to their high stability, and copper is inexpensive and active for the WGS reaction. Thus, the research work that will be discussed in the presentation consists in the synthesis and characterization of Sr1-xCuxTiO3, SrTi1-xCuxO3 and Cu/SrTiO3 (copper supported on SrTiO3) applied to the WGS reaction. The presentation will show the results of catalytic activity of Sr1-xCuxTiO3 and SrTi1-xCuxO3 and the characterization with techniques such as in situ XANES and EXAFS. The seminar will also cover the first results of characterization of the Cu/SrTiO3 samples.
